The Mackenzie Gas Project is committed to providing interested
northerners with an opportunity to influence the project planning
process. To do this, we:
- Provide local communities and interested people with timely
information about the Project
- Help to identify key issues and concerns early in the
Project and encourage discussion about them
- Give local communities and people a way to give timely
input to improve project decisions
- Improve project design and northern support for the Project
by responding to concerns and making changes in the planning,
where appropriate
- Strengthen relationships by building mutual understanding,
respect and trust.
We gather information to help us plan the Project from three
main sources - consultation with communities, Traditional
Knowledge from local residents, and scientific studies.
We collect "baseline" information, or information
about what currently exists in a certain area. We study this
information and integrate it with Traditional Knowledge and
other studies. Based on what we learn, we then propose how
we can mitigate, or reduce, impacts on the natural environment
or peoples' lifestyles. Communities will have an opportunity
to review our mitigation
plans.
