Application to the National Energy
Board for Approval of the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline
The Mackenzie Valley pipeline is one of the five major components
of the Mackenzie Gas Project. The NPS 30 pipeline will extend
about 1,220 km from Inuvik along the east side of the Mackenzie
River valley to Norman Wells. From there, the pipeline will
continue south to connect to an extension of the NOVA Gas
Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) system just south of the Northwest
TerritoriesAlberta boundary.
The pipeline is designed to deliver about 34 Mm3/d
(1.2 Bcf/d) of sales gas to Alberta. The pipeline facilities
will include a custody transfer meter station at the Inuvik
area facility, four intermediate compressor stations, a heater
station and a pig receiver just south of the Northwest TerritoriesAlberta
boundary. The pipeline could be expanded to an annual average
capability of about 55 Mm3/d (1.9 Bcf/d) with the
addition of compressor stations.
Subject to regulatory approval with satisfactory conditions
being received by mid-2006, construction of the required facilities
is expected to be completed in time to enable gas to be delivered
to Alberta through the pipeline in 2009.
